This is the year I grew up. No longer chasing for the next big thing but settling down to appreciate all the work I had done. And that’s why I chose to wear a Seiko Presage.
You see, Seiko Presage Watches is a grown-up watch. It’s not seeking to impress but rather to be seen as someone of a certain type of class. I’m not trying to catch your attention with gaudy excess, but with class and panache.
The Seiko Presage Watch: Beautiful Dress Watches
What makes the Seiko Presage have this ineffable quality is simply because each timepiece in this collection is rooted in the artistry of Japan. They take inspiration from nature, artisanal work or a prevailing cultural movement.
The Sharp-Edged Series takes its cue from the traditional asanoha hemp-leaf design juxtaposed with modern sensibilities. The Craftsmanship watch series on the other hand is the combination of the work of Japanese master craftsmen combined with the horological excellence of Seiko. A Style 60s mechanical dress watch draws from the optimism and exuberance of 1960s postwar Japan.
These styles lend the timepieces an aspect that bears closer inspection. I’ve found myself just quietly admiring some of these timepieces while sitting down in my garden. They simply have an irresistible charm that’s worthy of attention.
The Seiko Presage Watches That I Love
I’ll share with you these Seiko Presage watches that have been with me in this era of introspection. Life is a little slower but a little bit more beautiful with these Japanese automatic watches.
A Timepiece for The Peaceful Travels: The Sharp-Edged SPB221J1
I used to be a management performance consultant. It took me everywhere. And that’s the appeal of why I got the SPB221J1. It has a 24 hour GMT hand (in red) that lets you track the time of another timezone. I used it to check in on my wife and daughter, calling in before bedtime no matter where I was. Even if I live a far different life nowadays, I still use it on the occasional leisurely air travel days.
I like the fact that it’s running on the 6R64 automatic mechanical movement. A hacking seconds feature, +25 to -15 seconds per day accuracy, and a 45 hour power reserve give me a steady partner wherever I go. That subdial on the bottom is actually a date display, which helps with a swell time difference adjustment feature.
I also love the way it looks. The asanoha hemp leaf pattern on the black dial with the sharp sword-like hands and sapphire crystal give it a striking visual. The 42mm stainless case (with a 10 bar water resistance) fits nicely on my wrist and with that bracelet and three fold clasp, I can really feel the craftsmanship that went into it. I love it as an example of a great Seiko Presage that’s worth every penny.

Quietly Beautiful: The Craftsmanship SPB233J1
Lately, I’ve been reading books everywhere and my preferred timekeeper is the SPB233J1 from the Seiko Presage Craftsmanship Series. It’s a more svelte timepiece at 34mm but even on my wrist, it has so much presence.
Chalk it up to shiro wired genuine fired enamel dial also elegantly paired with brown Roman numeral indices. On the crown, there’s a discreet diamond that hits the light just right. Dual-curved sapphire comes in as a scratch-resistant protection for the dial as well as providing extraordinary clarity for the watch.
Inside the 5 bar water resistant stainless steel case, a 6R31 automatic mechanical movement with manual winding runs a tight time with +24 to -15 seconds per day. Designed to make the watch thinner as a whole, this still packs a respectable 70 hour power reserve and stop second functionality. This is the mechanical dress watch for the easy life.

Confident Simplicity: SRPG05J1
I picked this up at the store the other day because I was quietly attracted by the simple lines and minimalism that typified the 1960s. The Seiko Presage SRPG05J1 just oozes charm because of that clean blue dial, LumiBrite accents, and uncluttered watchface.
The 40mm stainless steel case gives it a lot of heft as well as protection from the occasional spill with 5 bar water resistance and see-through screw caseback. Box-shaped Hardlex crystal gives out a nice clear view of the beautiful dial while a bracelet with a three-fold push button clasp adds comfort and functionality.
Also something of a workhorse, the 4R35 automatic mechanical movement is one of the most reliable and practical calibers you can find with approximately 41-hour power reserve. I take this out during strolls along the village when I’m in the mood to chat with the neighbors.
A Quiet Life Is What Everyone Deserves
Slowing down isn’t giving up. It’s more of prioritizing the more important things in life. Family, friends, and yes, beautiful timepieces like the Seiko Presage.
